This December the Formula One Grand Prix will take place in Saudi Arabia, a country with an apalling human rights record.
On 16th October London Campaign Against Arms Trade will be protesting outside the F1 London Headquarters in Piccadilly. Saudi Arabia should not be able to sports-wash away the repression of either its own citizens or the horrific outcomes from the Saudi led attacks on Yemen.
Saudi Arabia consistently ranks at the bottom of the economist’s world democracy index [1] on account of its repression of journalists and women’s rights activists, as well as the extensive use of the death penalty.
In addition, Saudi led attacks on Yemen have led to the deaths of thousands of civillians, with bombs falling on schools and hospitals [2]. The war, and the Saudi blockade on Yemen, have left millions of people, including over 2 million children at risk of starvation [3].
By allowing Saudi Arabia to host the Grand Prix, F1 is helping the Saudi government hide these atrocities from the world.
Join us on October 16th to call on F1 to end their association with Saudi Arabia.
